Golden Beach - the perfect place to enjoy a holiday at the Gippsland Lakes, Gippsland area generally and the magnificent Gippsland Coast including 90 Mile Beach

Golden Beach is an undiscovered town 30 minutes from Sale (and about 3hrs drive from the Melbourne GPO) exactly half way along 90 Mile Beach in Gippsland Victoria, Australia.

Golden Beach is an ideal location to holiday on the coast, the Gippsland Lakes and the Gippsland area more generally. Often when people are staying at the Gippsland Lakes they limit themselves to enjoying that one (magnificent) feature of the area. By staying at Golden Beach visitors can enjoy the amazing 90 Mile Beach AND be staying very close to the Gippsland Lakes. So close to the lakes in fact that from the driveway of 90 Mile Beach House and Villas you can be launching a boat into the Gippsland lakes within 15 minutes.

There is more information about the Gippsland Lakes, Gippsland Lakes boating and general information in the pages embedded in out “To Do” page. Just hover over the coloured references to the topics and click to open sub pages with detailed information about the Gippsland lakes and Ninety Mile Beach.

The town centre of Golden Beach is accessed via the Longford - Golden Beach Road which crosses the usually dry “Lake Reeve”. After crossing the lake, the road becomes known as Surf Edge Drive (but your GPS will still use the formal name) and opens up into a wide boulevard with a central strip of grass and beautiful Norfolk Island pine trees.  That is where you will find us!

Near the junction of Surf Edge Drive and the coastal route of Shoreline Drive is Golden Beach's commercial centre which includes:

*  Foodarama General Store and take away. Here you can buy general groceries, take away food, food/beverages including liquor as well as some basic hardware and fishing items.

*  Bluewater fish & chips, tackle and grocery shop offers a similar range but also has great Pizzas on the weekend and a slightly deeper range of fishing tackle and groceries (but no liquor).

* Golden Beach Cafe, lunch and coffee.

*  Golden Beach Building Supplies has a supply of hardware items and more hardcore rural items relating to fencing and irrigation.

*  The Community Hall (which is run by volunteers and now houses an information centre, lounge area and an Internet Kiosk).

*  A children’s playground is located between the community centre and the beach.

*  On the other side of the Community Hall is a small church and old tennis courts now converted to a inexpensive RV park.

*  There are two real estate agencies each listing land and houses for sale.

*  Public BBQs and new public toilets are located between all of these shops.

*  Only a few minutes down the road on the new walking track or by car is a reserve where there is a Bowls Club and 9 Hole Golf Course (each of which serve meals and drinks on different nights of the week) so you just need to check out the signs when you get to town to pencil in those times.

*  A little further on there is a large oval to kick the footy or play cricket.

The 90 Mile Beach, or Ninety Mile Beach extends in both directions along the coast as far as the eye can see and is the number one feature of the area. It features pristine golden sands bordered by dunes and coastal vegetation. The main access point to the beach is from the park located on Shoreline Drive, just south of Surf Edge Drive. This park has a large grassed area with more BBQs and picnic shelters. A pathway leads from the park to a viewing platform which provides panoramic views along the coast. Steps from the viewing platform lead directly down to the beach below where you can enjoy almost constant solitude.

*** Golden Beach does not have a hotel or pub, and believe it or not, not a Pokies machine in sight! It feels as though it is from a bygone era.

Come and discover our lovely town for yourself...enjoy the change of pace!
